An outstanding oak tree especially for the autumn / fall brilliant red colouring.
Scarlet Oak
( quercus
coccinea
)
This oak is native to Eastern parts of the USA and
grows to a height of 25m (80ft). The Scarlet Oak is a perennial tree
which looses its leaves in October and November.
There are many varieties of this attractive oak tree, some of which do not produce the brilliant red leaves, rather a muddy brown colour. So if you are considering buying a specimen, enquire about the autumn / fall leaf colour.
The leaf form also varies, with many varieties having a thinner and more angular appearance than shown on the left.
