This is not your normal, rather sterile Dobbies cafe. Significant attention to detail makes this
cafe feel homely but at the same time modern and slightly unusual. As you walk to the serving area,
the excellent kids menu is at a height that kids can read. Much better than putting it high up and
behind the counter.
Service is quick with little queuing time. The staff are friendly and very helpful.
The food itself is good quality and attractively displayed. Click on
the right hand picture to see the strawberries and cream cakes on offer. Delicious!
Hot food is ordered at the counter and then served to your table.
The cafe has a conservatory type ceiling which is very high. This gives a very
light and airy atmosphere to the whole cafe. The impression is of eating outside at
the same time as being under cover.
It's all attractively laid out with beautiful views of the surrounding area through the massive picture window. If weather permits there is also an outdoor seating area.
We were truly impressed by this cafe. Good food, a pleasant atmosphere and great views. That's hard to beat.
Main meal specials were priced around 6 to 7, baguettes and toasties were priced at 4 to 5 depending on the filling. Salads (fresh salmon at the time of our visit) came in at 5 to 6. All reasonable prices for the quality and quantity of the food.
HOUSE PLANTS
House plants were not just a sideshow at Dobbies, Sandyholm. There was an
extensive range of plants for sale. They were in good condition and displayed in an
attractive manner.
INDOOR SALES AREA
Dobbies, Sandyholm has a large indoor sales area with a full range
of gifts, cards, books etc. It's divided into two main areas. The first contains
goods that are garden related, indoor and outdoor furniture, barbecues, seed, tools
etc.
The second area, preceded by a rather steep ramp for wheelchairs, is purely gifts
and similar. Click the picture on the right to see the collectables and gifts area.
OTHER FACILITIES
At the far end of the outdoor plants area is the Clyde Valley Birds of Prey
area. We didn't go in but from a quick look it seemed good
value for the 1 entry fee. Demos and shows can be arranged for school children.
DISABLED FACILITIES Wheelchairs are available for free at the entrance. All areas are accessible both indoors and outdoors, although the ramp in the indoor sales area is a bit steep.
TOILETS Exceptionally clean, there were gents, ladies, disabled and baby changing facilities, all clearly signed.
CAR PARKING
Ample car parking is available. It's on flat and dry surfaces. Slightly further away
from the entrance than is normal but not a problem for most.
