Shrub The term shrub is not a botanical term, it is a horticultural term and therefore the definition is not clear cut. A shrub is a perennial plant which is growing one more than one stem from the ground. Two features distinguish a shrub from a tree, a shrub has no single trunk from the ground and  shrubs have a maximum height of 6m (19ft).
